Six Thinking Hats

The meeting is running late, established opinions, repetition, nothing new, well-trodden paths. Surly expressions, loud voices, attendees giving up. Does this sound familiar? Thinking together instead of clashing. Synergy and no debate. It can be done by those who apply the Six Thinking Hats of de Bono.

The Six Thinking Hats is a technique that uses fictitious hats in various colours representing six lines of thought. Meeting attendees all don the same hat, making it easier for them to conceive and express their thoughts, as this technique separates egos and opinions. Those who wear a hat take a different approach to a subject than usual.

Because the Six Thinking Hats affords a thinking structure in discussions and meetings, people listen to each other and are open to different points of
view. By applying the Six Thinking Hats meetings become:

  • constructive
  • creative
  • more structured.

It is a means to arrive quickly and effectively at new ideas as every aspect, idea, point of view is given individual attention. Parallel thinking produces innovative
solutions instead of black-and-white conclusions, because subjects are explored more thoroughly. This makes changes more manageable. It also bridges cultural and hierarchical differences.

The Six Thinking Hats is intended for those who wish to communicate constructively, think structurally and give creativity a logical place in their thinking and communication process. The core elements of the Green Hat are Lateral Thinking and Simplicity. DATT (Direct Attention Thinking Tools) deepens the White Hat and the Blue Hat. The Six Value Medals makes working with values more tangible and emotional Red Hat values explicit. The methods combine into a structured and well thought-out thinking technique.

The Six Thinking Hats lends itself superbly to incompany training, as company-specific cases provide constructive added value! QréaCom provides the course in Dutch and in English. Course duration: two days.
